Thousands of individuals & groups benefit from Emergency Livelihood Protection and Food Supplement programme

Drought is a recurrent natural disaster in Kenya, it affects over 10 million mostly livestock dependent people in arid and semiarid parts of the country. So far the Kenyan drought response intervention has been subject to ad-hoc and before any positive interventions drought erodes the assets of the poor communities and undermines their livelihood strategies leading to cyclical poverty and food insecurity.

The two activities undertaken were emergency livestock slaughter and Hides and skins distribution and training.

The emergency intervention program was successful and well received by all the beneficiary communities. Hides and skins group selection and training, together with purchase and slaughter was undertaken successfully.
